Abstract

Purpose. Research, disclosure and improvement of the essence of the category "innovation". Clarification of the conceptual and categorical apparatus in relation to the basic aspects of the science of innovation. Research methods. In the course of the study, the methods of scientific abstraction, comprehensive analysis and synthesis, structural decomposition, logic and generalisation of the results of previous studies, cause and effect, content-comparative, scientific and analytical were used to meaningfully reveal the essence of the problem. Scientific novelty. The basic postulates that reveal the characteristic features of innovation are substantiated and formulated. Scientific and methodological approaches to clarifying the essence of such categories as "innovation activity" and "innovation process" are considered and presented. The approaches to the interpretation of innovation from the standpoint of theory, methodology, methodicality and subject matter have been improved. The interpretation of the purpose, object and subject of innovation has been improved. An approach to the definition of the category "innovation" is proposed from a methodological and applied standpoint. Practical significance. The presented material specifies the content, increases the scientific level and possibilities of reasonable use of the terms and categories considered in the work. The paper clarifies the content of the categories "innovation activity", "innovation process", "object of innovation", "subject of innovation", "purpose of innovation", "innovation". Results. The basic postulates that methodically reveal the characteristic features of innovation and are the basis for the validity of effective practical decisions on the formation and implementation of innovations in all spheres and in all types of activities of society and man are presented. The article identifies and recommends for use the basic categories and concepts of innovation that have been improved in content. The authors have studied and defined the basic postulates that comprehensively reveal the socio-economic essence of innovation from a methodological and applied perspective. From a practical point of view, the essence of the categories of "innovation activity" and "innovation process" is clarified, which can be used at the level of higher education institutions in teaching relevant disciplines and in the management system of enterprises. The article provides a substantive interpretation of the purpose, object and subject of innovation
